Kenya Conservation Tour 2016 Overview

WHO:

 • Participants to be University students completing sophomore year or above, or recent college graduates, with interest in international conservation projects

• Program leaders to include conservation biologists from Kenya, Maasai leaders in protecting the environment, US university peers with experience in Kenya conservation volunteering

 • Travel logistics and program coordination through Susan Deslaurier, owner of Nariku Travel Experiences, who lives and works in Kenya part time

WHAT:

 • 3 week facilitated volunteer and learning experience in Kenya

 • Opportunities to experience conservation projects first hand, and provide hands on support for established efforts

 • Opportunity for academic credit, depending on your school’s process

 • Cost is $3900 for three weeks, including lodging, meals, transportation, field supervision/academic credit supervision, fees for parks and conservancies, donations to the projects and areas we will visit, and basic traveler health and support insurance (trip cancellation insurance for tour and airfare available at additional cost)

 • Minimum of 4 travelers for the trip to proceed, maximum of 20

WHEN:

• July 14 arrive Kenya – depart evening of August 5, 2016

• Opportunities for independent travel and other project placements before and after these dates can be arranged

WHERE:

• Kenya, including Nairobi, Maasai Mara region and Samburu region

• Accommodations in small camp tents, group rooms in simple lodges, local traditional food

WHY:

• Explore international conservation efforts to deepen understanding of the issues faced and actions underway locally

• Obtain valuable first-hand and hands-on experience in international conservation work

• Contribute to local efforts by volunteering time and energy

• Earn academic credit in your field of study when organizing with your advisors for requirements.

HOW:

• Complete the application to provide information on your interests and experiences

• On approval of application, you will receive the booking forms

• Payment of a 50% deposit will secure your spot in the group, with balance due 6 weeks prior to departure (June 2, 2016)
